The Birthright program basically sends young people on a trip to Israel at no cost because they feel everyone who is Jewish (at least has one Jewish parent) should have the opportunity to go to Israel. Anyway, a lot of people I know have already gone on the trip and have had an incredible time. I also went in 2005, and had the most amazing experience. Which is why I want to go again.
The only requirements are that you are 18-26 years old, have at least one Jewish parent and that you haven’t been on an organized trip to Israel after the age of 12. That’s all.
Even though it sounds strange, the trip really is legitimately, completely FREE, including airfare to Israel, really nice hotel accommodations, indescribably delicious food, and all the trips (by bus). You only need money if you want to buy souvenirs.
On my trip, we went to Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, the Dead Sea, the Mediterranean, and lots of other places, and did so many things, I can’t even remember them all. But it was incredible. And you get to meet a bunch of great people from all over.
The trip really is safe, they explain why on the website, but there have been thousands of these trips over the years, with no incidents. They don’t take you to any potentially dangerous places.
If you are at all interested, let me know and check out the website right here, just to get an idea of the different places you’d get to see and you can look at people’s photos from their trips. and fill out this little reminder form here: http://www.mayanotisrael.com/remindme/ that will have them tell you the exacts dates and what to do when. The registration starts on Sept 5th and places fo fill up pretty fast.
Just select that you want to go during the winter section and the month you wanna go (they do give you a choice of a few different dates during that time). And at the bottom, in the referred by section, just write Jenya Mendelenko.
There is only a $250 deposit to secure a place on the plane, which is absolutely returned to you at the end of the trip.
For everyone that I know who has gone on this trip, it has been the most amazing experience, so the chances of being disappointed are pretty slim.
So what’s the worst that could happen? Get to go to Israel for free.
Also if you know any friends who would be interested have them contact me or give them the registration link, but make sure they select the same month and put Jenya Mendelenko if you wanna be on the same trip/bus.
